Canon released its EOS R7 and we’re quick to compare it to the Fujifilm X-T4, the benchmark for APS-C hybrids. Result, the newcomer only leaves crumbs to the X-T4 that must bend despite its qualities.

How the pricing table works
After the EOS 7D, sports-focused APS-C SLR cameras, Canon returns with the same philosophy in a mirrorless body, the EOS R7. With a comfortable installation, the Fujifilm X-T4 now has to face more modern and sharp competition.
Again, two different approaches collide in the ring. On the one hand, Fujifilm plays the nostalgia card with a design reminiscent of the heyday of film photography with lots of knobs and chrome finishes. On the other hand, Canon stays true to itself by offering a fairly classic and efficient case. This first round is won by Fujifilm, which offers a more compact and ambitious camera, as well as a better defined viewfinder. Canon also defends itself with a simple and pleasant model to grasp, both for lovers of SLRs and hybrids.
Far from being a snail, the Fujifilm X-T4 is being overtaken by Canon’s latest addition. The EOS R7, a worthy descendant of the EOS 7D Mark II, is particularly fast, especially in low light, where it is twice as fast as its rival. Drive the point home with more advanced autofocus, offering impressive face and eye tracking, as well as even faster burst. We detail the reasons for the superiority of the EOS R7 in a dedicated article that we invite you to consult.
In terms of image quality, the Canon hybrid’s BSI CMOS sensor is better defined than that of the Fujifilm X-Trans 4, displaying 32.5 megapixels versus 26.1 Mpx. Both offer excellent shots. Sharpest on Canon at low ISO values, trend reverses when light runs out. However, the victory goes to the Canon EOS R7: its more sophisticated dynamic management allows more information to be retrieved in both high and low light conditions.
Same story on the video side where the EOS R7 is a must have thanks to its crop-free capture and autofocus that’s just as effective on stills as it is on video. The Fujifilm X-T4 is not far behind, as it also offers 4K DCI capture, as well as a 240fps slow motion mode in Full HD (vs 120fps “only”).
Although powerful, the Fujifilm X-T4 is forced to give way to the EOS R7. Particularly sharp, the Canon case is distinguished by its speed, its image quality and its video mode at the top. For its part, the Fujifilm hybrid reserves a careful and attractive design.
