Automaker Mercedes-Benz is turning to Web3 by developing a dedicated marketplace for data trading on Polygon (MATIC). Thanks to blockchain technology, Acentrik will connect professionals capable of providing all kinds of data, so that they can enhance their know-how.
Mercedes-Benz launches its data marketplace on Polygon
The famous car manufacturer. Mercedes Benz launch a blockchain project in polygon, through its subsidiary Daimler South East Asia based in Singapore. This project, called Acentrik, consists of a marketplace, specialized in the data trading.
Acentrik is based on the Ocean Protocol (OCEAN) technology thanks to a fork of it.
The market sees two types of players intervene: data providers and the data consumers. The former will thus be able to put up for sale in Acentrik the data of those who wish to obtain an economic benefit. To do this, these data will be stored in a computer node. You can choose a centralized model like an Amazon Web Service (AWS S3) server, but also the decentralized variant via the open source InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) protocol.
Data consumers will actually buy non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with USDC. Mercedes explains that the choice of Polygon lies in the low cost of its transactions, but also in the fact that the network uses Ethereum (ETH) Security.
On the side of the costs related to the trade of this data, 0.2% will be donated to Ocean Protocol and 15% will go to Acentrik for its development.

An economic model focused on professional players
Acentrik is based on a model business to business (B to B). However, although the contours are not yet clear, the whitepaper mentions a possible Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) in the future. However, a possible token dedicated to the protocol is not not mentioned at this time.
Specifically, the platform is aimed at any sector that needs a lot of data to establish models. One of the most representative use cases is the autonomous car. To create the most reliable vehicle possible, companies wishing to engage in such a project will need an enormous amount of data to analyze. Acentrik is then placed as an intermediary, to allow those who have this information to value them.
Companies could then, for example, focus on collecting useful satellite data for driving and resorting to to the services of Acentrik to put them to use.
