How the pricing table works

The AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor, which is located inside the Asus ZenBook S 13 Oled, has the particularity of carrying a new iGPU. AMD has integrated into the Zen 3+ architecture of its Ryzen a graphics part equipped with RDNA 2 cores from the Radeon RX 6000, with the key to a significant gain for the graphics performance of the Ryzen.

The Ryzen 7 6800U is the only low-power processor to pack 12 compute units, called the Radeon 680M, while the Ryzen 5 6600U makes do with six units called the Radeon 660M. AMD is also declining its RDNA 2 cores on 35 Watt and higher processors. However, the vast majority of these come bundled from laptop manufacturers with a dedicated GPU and are therefore not used in-game.

During its presentation in January at the high-tech trade fair CES, AMD praised the capabilities of its new iGPU, which we were also able to see during the ZenBook S 13 Oled test.

First of all, we compare the performance of the Radeon 680M present in the Ryzen 7 6800U of the ZenBook S 13 Oled with the iGPU (Vega 7) Ryzen 5 5500U from AMD, present in the ZenBook 13 Oled tested last year, and with the Iris of Intel Xe, present in the Core i7-1280P of Laptop Framework, using three games that we use to evaluate the iGPUs.

Playing Devil 3 at 1080p with all details maxed out, the Ryzen 5 5500U’s Vega 7 iGPU gets 29 fps; For its part, the Iris Xe delivers 35 fps and the Ryzen 7 6800U 65 fps. In the latter, therefore, it would be possible to increase the definition to gain comfort, since the Oled panel of the ZenBook S 13 has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. Supervision, also at 1080p but with a preset of 100%, the iGPU Vega 7 goes up to 45 fps, the Iris Xe offers 75 fps, while the Radeon 680M shoots with 124 fps. last test in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in 1080p, with the details to a minimum: the ZenBook 13 Oled and its Ryzen 5500U do not even finish the benchmark, the Iris Xe obtains 27 fps on average and the Radeon 680M reaches 33 fps.

But we wanted to go a little further by sending the Ryzen 7 6800U to our entire gaming panel, which helps define the GPU performance index of laptops. This panel includes Call Of Duty Black Ops, Control, Cyberpunk 2077, GodFall Y the medium. We just need: Metro Exodus EE, which uses Ray-tracing by default and would bring the iGPU to its knees, even with the settings turned to the minimum. However, we have made a big concession by setting all settings to a minimum with the presets available in games.

On our gaming panel, the Ryzen 7 6800U’s Radeon 680M performs well, averaging just over 30fps. Enabling the FSR offers a considerable gain in fluidity and, in certain cases, allows the detail level of a notch to be raised, particularly in fallen god.

Synthetic benchmarks corroborate the results we got in game, as announced by AMD, we see almost double the performance when going from the Vega of the Ryzen 5000 to the Radeon 680M of the Ryzen 7 6000. The Intel Iris Xe is among the two solutions from AMD, with a significant lead on the graphics driver side for Reds.

The switch to RDNA 2 architecture on the Ryzen 6000 offers a welcome performance boost. All the games on our panel have been tested and run smoothly, with compromises in detail, of course, even if nothing prevents us from choosing between less demanding titles. With the iGPU of its Ryzen 6000, AMD has a significant advantage over Intel’s Iris Xe, especially since the latter should not be renewed for some time.
