The FASFC announced on Thursday, August 4, 2022 that several Häagen-Dazs ice cream models are subject toa withdrawal procedure. The reason ? All lots contain 2-chloroethanol. It is an extremely dangerous chemical contaminant.

The recall affects ten products:

  • Belgian Chocolate (8 x 460ml)
  • Cookies and Cream (8 x 460ml)
  • Belgian Chocolate&Vanilla Duo (8 x 420 ml)
  • Vanilla Hazelnut & Car Duo (8 x 420ml)
  • Chestnut Vanilla & Rasp Duo (8 x 420ml)
  • Macadamia Nut Brittle Prem (8 x 460ml)
  • Macadamia Nut Brittel (24 x 95ml)
  • Macadamia Nut Brittle (12 x 4 x 80ml)
  • Bonbons&Cream (8 x 460ml)
  • Vanilla Pecan Prem (8 x 460ml)

Several large supermarkets have marketed these products in Belgium and Luxembourg. These include: Resuma, Colruyt, Delfood, Carrefour, Delitraiteur, Delhaize, Match, Makro and Cora. Please note that the marketing dates for these products are between May 17 and August 3.

A carcinogenic pesticide

For information, it is conducting an evaluation that the manufacturer General Mills discovered the toxicity of ice cream. According to the latter, the fault lies with a vanilla supplier.

Furthermore, since ethylene oxide is a carcinogenic pesticide, affected products should not be consumed. There are two options available to you if you have one in your possession. Put them in the trash or take them to the store for a refund. In case of doubt, you can also contact consumer service.

“We ask consumers who have purchased these products not to consume them and to contact General Mills for a refund,” the federal agency for the safety of the food chain communicated.

Several batches of ice cream affected by a recall in France

  • Multipack ice creams: Caramel Attraction, Vanilla Duo Collection, Favorite Selection and Chocolate Collection. The sale of these products was made between March 8 and July 29, 2022 in several important distributors. These distributors include Casino, Franprix, Cora, Lidl and Intermarché.
  • Ice creams, mini cups and tubs: Vanilla Crunch Cookie, Vanilla Pecan, etc. They were available almost everywhere in France between March 16 and July 29, 2022. Their expiration date is between March 16 and April 29, 2023. The stores that sell the products are: Carrefour, Casino , Auchan, Picard, Monoprix, Match, etc. .
  • Sticks and mini-sticks: Macadamia Nut Brittle/ Salted Caramel Mix Sticks, Vanilla Caramel Almond, etc. These models were on the shelves between March 16 and July 29, 2022. Among the stores that sold them were Cora, Franprix, Casino, Auchan, Système, Intermarché and Monoprix.
