Position and distribute the weight of the load in the motorhome

Motorhomes have the function of habitat, of course, but also of vehicles that require, for safety reasons, to be loaded correctly so as not to become unbalanced and to avoid rocking.

The heavy goes down, the light goes up… it makes sense!

Therefore, it is preferable to store all heavy items (cans and other food in large containers, packages of mineral water, snow chains, extra gas cylinders, toolbox, books, etc.) in the low storage. , under the seating area in the dining room or in the low cupboards in the kitchen, for example.

The tall cabinets, meanwhile, will be used for clothing, table linens and other small light accessories.

Trick : Using tissue boxes neatly organizes your drawers and reduces noise from friction and bumps.

Please note: road holding depends on load

In principle, heavy objects should touch the ground and preferably in the storage spaces in the front or center of the vehicle. Road behavior will be better. Be careful, even if you respect the payload of your vehicle, do not overload the rear compartment too much because this can cause problems during hard braking if the vehicle is not centered on the road.

Kitchen: stop rattling, stop scrapping

In the kitchen, use this non-slip foam found in DIY stores (and supermarkets), line the inside of your drawers and cupboards, and why not, your fridge.

Wardrobes

For condiments, like rice, pasta, and other ingredients, place boxes in your drawers and cupboards to compartmentalize them. As for the glass bottles, surround them with rubber bands. Cleaning products also deserve to be stored in a series of small plastic containers. Your wet sponges, of course.

Do not think that it is imperative to store kitchen equipment in storage close to the kitchen cabinet. Vegetables do not necessarily have to be placed in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. They can also find their place in a chest under the bed. And if you can do without your wardrobe, install shelves there. Once again, you will have the heavy at the bottom and the light at the top. Lastly, don’t put any heavy objects on the upper kitchen cupboard. Instead, put the towel, the kitchen towels…

Cookware

Again, use the non-slip mat (cut out squares to fit between pans and saucepans. Gather cutlery and other lightweight utensils with rubber bands. And if your cutting board gets in the way, place it against a wall with a Velcro square.

The bathroom, often poorly equipped with storage space.

To save space in the bathroom cabinet and avoid unnecessarily littering the shelves with wet shower gel and shampoo bottles, place them in a special plastic bathroom tray with holes to hang from the shower faucet (in big sales).

Trick : Van users will remember to place the toilet paper at a height so as not to wet it during the shower.

The bedroom: where we keep our clothes

When you go on a trip for a few weeks, the clothing stock is relatively large. The clothes will be stored mainly in the closets in the ceiling of the bedroom with an equal distribution between Mrs. and Mr. If everything does not fit you, you can store excess clothes under the bed in collapsible plastic containers. For its part, the dirty clothes will be stored (blue bag from Ikea or another), also, under the bed. As the trip progresses, the bedroom closets will be emptied and then filled with clean clothes stored under the bed. Dirty clothes will end up in the blue bag!

Trick : The wardrobe, present in most motorhomes, is sometimes a poorly used space (too spacious for two coats and two fleeces, for example). You can optimize it by installing a hanger hanging from the bar and transforming the closet into a coat rack.

The cellar, to be carefully organized

The rear cargo hold is present in almost all vehicles. Depending on the model and size of the motorhome, its volume may vary. This multifunctional space is ideal for storing and storing bulky equipment (camping chairs and table, water hose, wedges, etc.). The cellar is, as a rule, equipped with a door on each side of the vehicle, and its storage does not owe anything to chance.
Right side (near cell door)You will store the essentials of the day to day (cable to connect to the 220 V, stabilizing wedges, hose for water and shower, toiletries, toolbox and various DIY, awning crank, shoe bin, etc.)
Left side we will store equipment such as garden furniture (table and chairs), extra water supply (5 liter bottle), walking shoes, walking sticks and sports accessories, folding bike if needed. In addition, the warehouse can be optimized by placing full-width shelves to the size of plastic boxes. This will allow you easier access to your belongings without having to take everything out.

Many motorhome owners travel with their pet, which also has its share of luggage! And in this registry, the “doggy” mat (which takes up a lot of space) will be placed under the table, he loves it…! His bowl of water, filled, will be installed on a non-slip mat, in the shower tray, thus avoiding unwanted splashes of water… And the puppy will be happy!

For croquettes that have a certain smell, we recommend that you place them in a large “Curver” closure to store them in the cellar.
