SUV Citroën C5 Aircross restylé : lequel choisir ?

This Citroën C5 Aircross is a true family vehicle, which began its journey in 2018. Recently redesigned, it has lost none of its modularity with three individual, sliding and reclining rear seats. No change, on the other hand, in the legroom, which would have deserved an increase. But during a restyling, it is not about altering the technical characteristics of a model that is too attractive. For this reason, Citroën was content with a facelift, but it is not light at all, since the front of the vehicle has been extensively reworked. If the gaze remains two-tiered, the spotlights become more refined and form an elongated “X”. The grille has also been redesigned, as have the chevrons. This gives this large 4.50m long SUV a more serious look. At the rear, the lights have also been modified while new 18-inch diamond wheels appear.

A new screen, but still the same interface

If the habitability of this vehicle has not changed, the same has not happened with the furniture found on board. Thus, the dashboard has seen its central part modified with a new larger multimedia screen that now shows 10 inches, it equips the versions with GPS in the combustion engine (from the Shine finish) and the hybrid entry range (from the Feel finish). Too bad the interface on this screen is always a bit slow. There are also new air vents, and a central console that evolves especially thanks to the new gear lever for the EAT8 automatic gearbox, it is an e-Toggle gear selector that, due to its small size, leaves enough space to install a large storage compartment. It has capacity for 2 USB ports and wireless smartphone charging (standard or optional), which works by induction.

Comfortable, a true Citroën

What many people look for with a Citroën is comfort and in that sense the C5 Aircross is well placed with its suspension with progressive hydraulic brakes, its three individual rear seats that have the same width. But also with the new generation of its Advanced Comfort front seats, which can be heated and massaged. As for the volume of the trunk, it is still just as spacious with 580 liters for the versions with a combustion engine, the version with a plug-in hybrid engine being content with 460 liters, the battery must be housed somewhere and in this case it is under the floor from the trunk.

only three engines

As for the engine, the redesigned Citroën C5 Aircross maintains the same blocks as before but removes one, the 180 hp 1.6 petrol. We therefore have, in essence, a 130 hp 1.2 PureTech that can be associated with a six-speed manual transmission or an EAT8 automatic transmission. There is also a 130 hp 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine also available with BVM6 or EAT8 and a 225 hp rechargeable hybrid engine that allows a range of 55 km in electric according to the WLTP homologation cycle (the maximum speed in electric is 135 km/h). h). Regardless of the engine you decide to have, the Citroën C5 Aircross is not a dynamic vehicle and will behave like a calm father, which will allow you to take advantage of the ride comfort of this model, which turns out to be of a good level.

The plug-in hybrid engine keeps its plus

The finishes are five in number (Live, Feel, Feel Pack, Shine and Shine Pack) and if the entry level is already well equipped, it is from the second trim level where we will appreciate the Citroën C5 Aircross more. Prices range between €28,850 and €48,250. At these prices, ecological penalties of €310 to €1,074 must be added for the gasoline versions and €75 to €380 for the diesel versions. As for the plug-in hybrid motor, it still benefits from a government aid of €1,000 until January 1, 2023 (vehicle ordered before January 1, 2023 and delivered before July 1, 2023).

Compared to a more dynamic Peugeot 3008, a Renault Austral that will be marketed from this autumn, the redesigned Citroën C5 Aircross can highlight its ride comfort, its slightly lower price (and a discount always possible at the dealer, from 4 to 6 %) compared to its two competitors (although Austral pricing is still pending, we know the entry level should be listed at €32,000).
