“I’m going to introduce myself as someone who used Tornado Cash to donate specifically for this cause. »
In response to a Twitter user asking why was he speaking publicly about it if he needed to go through a cryptocurrency mixer to maintain his anonymity, Vitalik replied that his intention “ it was to protect the recipients », and not himself.
Vitalik Buterin is not on his first try on Russia’s actions. There he also stated that the Russian government was aware of his position on the issue, referring to a tweet where he responded to the chief editor of Russian media RT ” go to hell “.

End of the Tornado Cash mixer in the United States
We announced it to you 2 days ago, OFAC, under the authority of the United States Department of the Treasuryblacklisted cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, accusing him of having facilitated the theft of $7 billion in cryptocurrencies since its creation in 2019 by allowing various thieves hide your identity.
Cryptocurrency mixers allow their users to deposit a certain amount of cryptocurrency and recover it anonymously through different wallets.
This decision has makes a stirin particular because it is in fact the protocol code itself that has been attacked even if it does not in itself constitute anything illegal. In fact, it is the use made of it that is problematic.
As far as Ukraine is concerned, its president Volodymyr Zelensky had signed a law in March to develop and promote the use of cryptocurrencies within the country after the many cryptocurrency donations flowing in from around the world. Some people had to use mixers like Tornado Cash, especially Russian residents.
