“And aside from the 2022 World Cup”…
Why this section? Because there are many new products this fall, and you certainly expect to see them all on our “Mondial de l’auto” mini-site, where you traditionally find new models from all manufacturers.
However, since several manufacturers have chosen not to be present at this edition of the 2022 Paris Motor Show, a certain number of new products will not be exhibited at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. However, in order to offer you a comprehensive overview and meet your expectations, we have chosen to publish them on the Caradisiac mini-site dedicated to the Paris Motor Show, but in a special section “And outside the Paris Motor Show”. .
“There will be no convertible version because the Chiron’s carbon monocoque is not designed for that”. This was argued by Bugatti communicators at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show when we asked them if the Molsheim brand planned, as in the case of the previous Veyron, to one day remove the roof of the new Chiron. However, six years later, the Alsatian brand presents a definitive version of its roofless supercar. The new W16 Mistral, with certain styling cues reminiscent of the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid, is indeed presented as a flamboyant hair-in-the-wind driving roadster unlike all versions of the Chiron (and for the few special). series offered in recent years).
The W16 Mistral, whose name evokes the famous wind that dehorns oxen throughout the western part of the Côte d’Azur, thus takes over from the old Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. The latter remains to this day the fastest open car in the world, 10 years after its officially approved record of 408.84 km/h.
With a quad-turbocharged eight-liter W16 boosted to 1,600 horsepower, like in the Chiron Super Sport and Centodieci, you probably won’t have a problem beating this record. Bugatti also announces a top speed of 420 km/h for the W16 Mistral and the official press release specifies that its goal is to “once again become the fastest roadster in the world”.
Six million euros and 99 copies
Due to the removal of the roof, it was necessary to “totally rethink the Chiron’s carbon monocoque,” according to the press release. Bugatti explains that it is not simply cut at roof level without going into technical details. His design is inspired a bit by the Centodieci (profile) but also by the Divo (optics) and the Bolide (stern). Bugatti does not reveal the details of the technical sheet at the moment but we already know that it will cost five million euros without taxes, or six million euros in total here in France.
It will be limited to 99 copies, all already sold. Therefore, today it is no longer possible to order a car from Bugatti, since all copies of the Chiron have also been sold. Note that these are the last years of the great W16 launched in 2005 with the Veyron. After this W16 Mistral and the Bolide reserved for the circuit, it will definitely disappear from the Bugatti range and will be replaced by a hybrid thermal engine.
