Nouvelle Xbox Series : à quoi s’attendre ?

Nouvelle Xbox Series : à quoi s'attendre ?

Like what Microsoft offered with the Xbox One and what is currently being done with most smartphones, it is not uncommon to see mid-generation machines come out to give a small technological boost to a range of consoles. So it’s time for us to imagine what improvements and changes a new iteration of the Xbox Series could bring.

What to expect from the next Xbox series?

More storage space

Initially, we would like to be able to take advantage of a little more storage space. If the Xbox Series X SSD benefits from a respectable size of 1TB, removing the space taken up by the operating system, it is especially the size of the Series S SSD that poses problems, with only 500GB of free space. , including 136 GB dedicated to the operating system.

So obviously it’s quite possible to get a storage expansion card from Seagate so you don’t have to ask questions anymore, but it would still be preferable if the next Xbox series supports an SSD at least as efficient, but with storage space that come to minus one terabyte for a 100% dematerialized console, and one and a half terabytes of data for a classic machine.

In fact, games these days tend to take up more and more space in our storage space, like Marvel’s Avengers and Call of Duty for example. Additionally, Xbox Game Pass gives gamers unlimited access to a huge catalog of titles, and enjoying more than one at the same time can quickly lead to storage limits on your console.

A performance boost

In addition to storage, gamers can also expect a significant performance boost. Although the current capabilities of the Xbox Series are quite sufficient, it is unthinkable that a new machine can be marketed without gaining in performance.

So this could finally be the chance to enjoy 4K at 60fps natively, without having to choose between the classic Fidelity, Performance and other Performance RT modes. Whoever says more powerful console also says, in addition to the improvement in resolution and frequency, more details at the graphics level and a higher density of display: more NPCs, more vegetation, more visual effects. In short, more of everything!

While today’s third-party games generally offer a very clean visual representation, Microsoft exclusives could eventually tap into the guts of the machine to deliver even more beautiful graphical slaps, like what competition with Uncharted 4 and God of War can deliver. in its original version. time, or Horizon Forbidden West and The Last Of Us Part II more recently. Thus, the arrival of a more powerful console would make it possible to capitalize on the know-how of developers to offer even more visually impressive works.

The advent of ray tracing

As for Ray-Tracing, again the increased power of a new Series could allow this technology to gain in rendering and performance. So we could take advantage of a more substantial and marked Ray-Tracing without having to lose resolution or display frequency to take full advantage of it.

Still too neglected by many developers, because it requires a lot of resources, this technology could take advantage of this new machine to clearly express itself and further improve various lighting effects in the pursuit of realism.

Still in terms of technologies, Microsoft could consider it appropriate to increase its efforts regarding the reproduction of the audio offered by its console, improving a little more the spatialization of sound in space, as well as its mix.

A slight modification of the design.

As for the design and visual aspect of the machine, Xbox would certainly benefit from offering an even lighter and smaller console than the Xbox Series X although, we agree, we are still a long way from the behemoth that is the PS5, and the Series S size is already small enough to fit almost anywhere.

Apart from a reduction in size and weight, the design could also change slightly, similar to what was done between Xbox One and Xbox One X.

Like the efforts made in adding many technologies, Microsoft should continue its progress in cooling and overheating the machine. As it stands, the Xbox Series stays fairly quiet and doesn’t particularly overheat – a point we’re obviously hoping to find in the next machine with, perhaps, the addition of a new liquid cooling system.

Similarly, will the company choose to focus on a single version of the Xbox Series, or will the S and X versions be entitled to their new iteration? For our part, we would opt for a single model.

a new driver

It might also be interesting to see a USB port appear on the front of the console, along with a controller that finally runs on battery power alone!

In addition to this first improvement, the next Xbox Series controller could see its classic version, or at least its Elite version, get closer to what DualSense offers with many features: adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and more realistic vibrations. The arrival of a new model could make it possible to further improve the ergonomics of the controller.

Virtual reality lens?

Always wanting to expand its offering and offer something new, Xbox could easily compete with PlayStation by offering its own VR headset. Although the PSVR2 planned for next year already seems quite technologically advanced, perhaps Microsoft wants to take the step by offering its own equipment of this type. And then nothing stops you, especially your bank account!

and the price then?

But despite our wishes, our expectations and our hopes: an important element, perhaps the most important, still remains to be addressed. In addition to the release date, which could be estimated between the end of 2023 and the end of 2024, it is obviously the price that will tip the balance of many players towards a possible purchase!

But then, will Microsoft follow the same logic as for Xbox One X, and offer the next Xbox Series at a cost equivalent to the base price of the Series X, and thus stay below the symbolic €500 bar (at least for the model with disk drive)? Otherwise, a higher price could sadly put some people off… And what about marketing a new machine knowing that some may not have been able to get an Xbox Series X yet due to lack of stock?

Do not hesitate to tell us what you think of all this, and what your expectations and wishes would be for the future Microsoft console.
