Gamescom 2022 was this week. As expected, Hogwarts Legacy, Sonic Frontiers or Dead Island 2 were there. But we are also entitled to amazing new announcements. Here are 10 video games we didn’t see coming that stand out.
Opening Night Live + Future Games Show
Note that we wrote these lines before Xbox at Gamescom and the Awesome Indies Showcase. Since we cannot predict the future, we cannot include any new announcements made at these conferences in this list. Fortunately, there was already a lot going on with Opening Night Live and the Future Games Show.
Opening Night Live
Focus was present during the Opening Night Live and presented us with several interesting games. Among them are the new baby from the creators of The Surge, inspired by titles like Prince of Persia and Monster Hunter. His nickname? Fallen Atlas. This is an action RPG in which the arena will be your main ally. In fact, you can use it as a powerful weapon thanks to your powers to defeat the imposing monsters on your way. Once killed, they will release their essence, allowing you to customize your playstyle. That’s all we know for now, but the universe and the trailer are already inspiring. See you throughout 2023 to discover this game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
Friends VS Friends
We would have seen the next title published by Devolver. However, it’s not our favorite gaming punks who oversee this wacky title, but Raw Fury. A colorful artistic direction, an atmosphere happy tree friendsmultiplayer battles and a combination of shooting and deckbuilding (like the acclaimed Neon White), such is the recipe for Friends vs Friends. It’s all in the title: the goal will be to fight against your friends in wild games. We are promised many weapons (from the pistol to the nuclear explosion), 10 characters with unique abilities and, of course, a good dose of fun. Unfortunately, you will have to be patient before you see what gives joystick or mouse in hand. For now, no release date or window has been issued and the game is advertised for PC only.
Killer Clowns from Outer Space: The Game
I’m talking about a movie that people under 20 (or even 30) can’t see. It was in 1988 when this feature film was released, both humorous and creepy. At the time, it had also been entitled to a video game adaptation, as was done a lot. For many, the film Killer clowns from outer space it is cultured. Unfortunately, over time, it gradually began to fade into oblivion. But that was not counting the game’s executive director Friday the 13th: The Video Game who decided to work on a revival of the license with Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. to the program? An asymmetric multiplayer game (3 clowns against 7 humans), crazy and bloody. is planned for the beginning of 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
We knew that the creators of Subnautica were going to present their new game to us, but we couldn’t wait for what they announced to us. Moonbreaker is nothing like the survival and exploration game that made Unknown Worlds famous. This is a turn-based strategy and simulation game that aims to give players the sensations of a real miniatures game. To make this passionate little dream come true, the developers of Unknown Worlds knew how to surround themselves well. Brandon Sanderson, who took over the writing of the wheel of time after the death of its creator, Robert Jordan, he set about shaping the sci-fi world of Moonbreaker. if you’re curious, note that early access to the title should start on September 29 on PC and Mac. And for the most impatient, a test phase for players is also planned.
under the waves
After Sea of Solitude, Quantic Dream continues in the edition with a new aquatic title that will take place, this time, on the seabed. Titled Under the Waves, this narrative game puts us in the shoes of Stan, a professional diver facing a tragic loss. Thus, a parallelism is established between the loneliness and discomfort of our protagonist, and the depths of the sea that surround him. Parallel Studio promises us an exciting and moving adventure in which our choices will have consequences. Note that on the occasion of this partnership, the studio and the French publisher have joined forces with an association that works to preserve the oceans: Surfrider Foundation Europe. As for Under the Waves, It is expected sometime in 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
where the winds meet
If there is a trailer that has surprised viewers, it is the one for Where the Winds Meet. This ambitious Chinese action game was able to surprise us in just a few minutes. Due to its environment, its setting and its mechanics, the title inevitably reminded us of Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. But that does not mean that it is a pale copy and paste, far from it. First, Where Winds Meet chose to set its stage in China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. As for the mechanics, they will be diverse and varied: frontal combat, stealth, platforms, exploration, choice of profession… We can even run on water. Suffice to say, all of this makes you want. Unfortunately, the curious will have to wait. we do not have at the moment no release date announced, not even support.
Fallout, Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition, The Outer Worlds… What a beautiful pedigree the developers of Wyrdsong have. This still very mysterious game is, in fact, the work of a former Bethesda, overseen by a great man: Jeff Gardiner, former producer of the Fallout series. So there are good people on this project, but who are they? From what little we know at the moment, This is a AAA budget open world RPG, it’s all these developers know how to do best. It should be noted that Wyrdsong will take place in a fictional Portugal with a medieval and fantastic air. To set up this universe, Something Wicked Games will turn to the famous Unreal Engine 5. And for financing, this new studio has approached the Chinese giant NetEase. No release date or support yet.
future games show
The Future Games Show was above all an opportunity to highlight the games already presented, but we were still entitled to some surprise announcements, and this to our great pleasure. This is particularly the case for God of Rock, a title that offers us a mix between a fighting game and a rhythm game. If this shandy isn’t new itself, it’s still uncommon. Especially since God of Rock offers us as a bonus a colorful and original artistic direction that allowed him to stand out from the crowd during this long conference. to the program? Over 40 original tracks, 12 characters to play as, a story mode to see your favorite climb the ranks, a training mode, a local and online leaderboard mode and, for the most creative, a music editing tool. God of Rock is scheduled for this winter on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The case of the golden idol
Old-fashioned point’n’clicks are becoming rarer. The most nostalgic, therefore, usually smile when they see these types of titles appear. So when, in addition, the title in question mixes nostalgia and originality, it is the winning combo. And that’s good because it’s the case of The Case of the Golden Idol. All in pixels, this title is a true homage to the point’n’click investigation games of yesteryear. Here you are in the 18th century, you can only rely on your sense of observation to piece together particularly bloody crime scenes and uncover the truth. The old game requires, this game probably won’t appeal to everyone. But it has the merit of existing and will delight, we hope, the most nostalgic. However, you will have to be patient because No release date has been announced for this PC game.
To vary the pleasures, we finish with a psychological thriller that plays with your memory and perception: The hollow. In the shoes of neuroscientist Joshua Hayes, reality is not always easy to discern. The man suffers from a genetic disease, as do members of his family. To put an end to this scourge, he decides to participate in an experiment conducted by the biotech giant Neuraxis. But sometimes playing with the mind is dangerous. Trapped in the middle of parallel realities, Joshua will have to fight his way through his memories to get out of this hell. Unfortunately, it’s hard to make the right decisions when you can’t trust anyone, not even yourself. The experience promises to be atypical, which makes this announcement intriguing. It remains to be seen what it will be like once the game is finished and released. For now, There is no date on the horizon, but we do know that the game will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
And you ? What are your unexpected announcements from this gamescom?
