In fact, the manufacturer has announced that 70% of its range will be made up of 100% electric models at this time. To do this, Skoda will inject 5,600 million euros in “e-mobility” and almost 700 million euros in digitization.

The new front end is characterized by a slimmer and now featureless grille as well as T-shaped headlamps. This new visual identity is called “Teck-deck”.

To support this new strategy, the brand is adopting a new visual identity. “Modern Solid” is the trade name chosen by Skoda to describe this new design. “The most important change for Skoda since it joined the Volkswagen Group 30 years ago,” explains Martin Jahn, member of the executive board.

By 2026 three new electric models will appear as a result of this plan: a city car, a compact SUV the size of a Karoq and finally a seven-seater SUV planned for the end of 2015. It is precisely the latter that is being proposed today, in the form of of concept, the bases of the new face of Skoda. Your name ? 7S vision. An electric family vehicle capable of offering 7 seats.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s modular platform (MEB), this concept sports a fairly conventional SUV silhouette marked by a wide shoulder, squared-off wheel arches and large-diameter rims.

At the bottom of the bumpers, there are 7 vertical air intakes, including an orange one. The latter gives access to a circuit breaker in the event of a problem.

The Vision 7S above all sports various tricks that will be found in the models of the next series and in particular in the “Teck-deck”. This is the new front. The familiar grille has been refined and the ribs are now replaced with tinted glass. Everything is highlighted by an LED strip that stretches across the entire width of the vehicle. “Skoda” lettering now replaces the logo at the end of the hood. In this sense, the winged arrow is still present but has been simplified.

At the ends of this new front end, there are new T-shaped optics that overflow onto the fenders. At the bottom of the bumpers, both front and rear, there are 7 vertical air intakes, one of them orange. The latter gives access to a circuit breaker in the event of a problem. The rear end composed of a gently sloping roof, an imposing spoiler and a specifically designed apron points to aerodynamic performance. Everything is highlighted in a new matte green colour, which will be offered for the first time in the manufacturer’s catalogue.

Behind the antagonistic doors, we discover a spacious and bright interior made up of a minimalist dashboard. The multimedia screen rotates 90° and the seats rotate when autonomous driving mode is activated. On board, Skoda lives up to its reputation by offering generous volumes on all floors. In a good concept, the Vision 7S adopts a minimalist board made up of, for the most part, recycled materials. The floor and bumpers, for example, are made from recycled tires. The opposing doors are present just for the occasion. They will not carry over to the production version.

Skoda announces that it has worked especially on the man/machine interface to improve ergonomics. The good news is that the brand does not give up physical controls such as rotary knobs that adjust the air conditioning.

Despite a lot of technological content, Skoda has retained the physical controls.

What is surprising on board this concept is the space for the baby seat. The latter is located between the center console and the second row seats. “The safest place in the vehicle according to Skoda”. An interior camera broadcasts the image of the child through the central screen. There is almost no chance of this system being transferred to a production model.

This concept, equipped with an autonomous driving system, offers two interior configurations. In “driving” mode, all the elements are in their place. The central touch screen is in an upright position and the seat is facing the steering wheel, etc. During or when charging the vehicle, “Relax” mode is available. The steering wheel and instrument cluster slide back, the front seats swivel and recline to allow rear passengers to see the screen. All passengers have a clear view of the screen, which rotates to a horizontal position.

Among the “simply smart” tricks loved by the brand, Skoda innovates with magnetic surfaces under the center console and behind the seat backs that allow you to connect a smartphone or various metal objects such as a bottle or here a first aid kit. .

The Vision 7S will offer, among other things, a battery with a capacity of 89 kWh that allows a range of 600 km (WLTP) and capable of receiving a charging power of up to 200 kW (DC).

As for the technical part, the manufacturer gives little information. The concept is powered by a battery with a capacity of 89 kWh assembled in the Czech Republic at the historic factory in Mlada Boleslav. Last spring, Skoda inaugurated a cell assembly line (supplied by LG) capable of producing 250,000 batteries a year to supply various electric models of the Volkswagen group. Here, it gives the Vision 7S concept a range of 600 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The latter accepts a direct current load power of up to 200 kW. High values today in the market of general manufacturers.
