game news Red Dead Online: report cheaters, Rockstar bans you and reinstates your account
Quite an unusual fact in the world of video games: it seems that there was a miscommunication between Rockstar and a regular player of Red Dead Online, who however thought he was doing well.
The sprinkler watered
Although Red Dead Online isn’t really Rocksar’s top priority anymore, plenty of gamers still roam the western lands of the sublime Red Dead Redemption II. And like all multiplayer games, there are cheats that use software to make your life easier. : god mode, auto aim, radar invisibility… the cheats are numerous and they have noticeably rotted many parts, in particular those of Kevin Daly, a regular player.
So much so that he began denouncing all these individuals in reports sent to Rockstar, through official support channels. The developer’s response? “Cheat reports are currently not being accepted for Red Dead Redemption 2.” A lunar response to someone who thought he was doing the right thing: worse still, your account was locked for thirty days for violating Rockstar’s Terms of Service. And it’s not over.
A punishment out of nowhere
In addition to being banned for a month, Rockstar told Kevin Daly that “All of your Red Dead Online characters, progress, and inventory will be reset”. As a final blow, the R-star firm added that “its decisions to suspend, ban, and reinstate characters from Red Dead Online are final and unappealable.” In short, Kevin Daly was severely punished… but for what, exactly?
Visibly frustrated (and rightly so), the poor unlucky guy posted his story on Reddit, from the dedicated Red Dead Online forum. Supported by the players, Then the controversy started to mount and Rockstar reversed their decision, sending a new message to Daly.
The last response you received from us that we do not accept cheat reports in Red Dead Online was not correct. We fully accept cheater reporting and take cheating and the pain it causes in our games very seriously. I am very sorry that you have had problems with other players cheating or using bugs in the game.
It would simply seem, therefore, that Rockstar made a mistake out of sheer carelessness, taking Daly for a cheater when he came to report them. The studio has also stated that its first response result “lack of communication”.

The sentence is irrevocable.
So you could say it’s all good if it ends well, except… Rockstar hasn’t really fixed the Kevin Daly situation. The banishment of him has been lifted, of course, but his character was reset to level 1. He was able to keep the silver and gold accumulated before, but he lost all the upgrades and items on his avatar, which was close to level 100.
Contacted by PC Games N, the player specifies:
The ban has been lifted, but I have to start from scratch. I spent around €15 real money (in-game) and obviously €69.99 for RDR2 and Red Dead Online. It’s not much, really. It’s just that you can spend thousands or small amounts, but at the end of the day, if your situation in the game doesn’t affect Rockstar financially, they don’t seem to care.
Honestly, I feel disappointed. I’ve been a Rockstar since the PS2 era and I spent a lot of money. It looks like they ditched RDR2 in favor of GTA Online and just let modders and cheaters run amok. I know myself personally, I will not return to RDR2 because the pleasure is gone.
Not having the energy to return to level 100, Daly admits that he quit the game after his misadventure. And so much to say that it is not a very good publicity for Rockstar…
