Future Dacia Primavera (2024). Important restyling in sight for the electric city car

Although the arrival of a Spring 2 for 2024 has been announced, it is rather a major restyling that is being prepared for Dacia’s electric city car. Still made in China, you’ll get a much more modern dashboard and a new face, not to mention some technical developments.

Quite used to fairly discreet facelifts, Dacia should, however, offer a major restyling of its electric city car, the Spring, in 2024.

A replacement for the Spring from 2024? Here is the surprise announcement made earlier in the year by Luca de Meo, the head of the Renault group. However, the first electric Dacia is not very old, as it has only been driving on French roads since the spring of 2021. But this model first started its career in China under the name Renault K-ZE. This day, the argo I can tell you more. Based on our information, we shouldn’t really expect a real new generation of Spring, but a big evolution. However, this facelift will have an unprecedented scale in Dacia, quite accustomed to doing touch-ups sparingly.

A completely redesigned face

Grill, headlights, shields… the entire front end will therefore undergo important modifications. For our illustrations, we have decided to draw heavily from the future Duster and Bigster, which will arrive around the same time. This choice seemed logical to us for reasons of aesthetic coherence. After all, with its mini-SUV look, the current Spring already looks like a scaled-down Sandero 3 Stepway. But Dacia design has seen three boss changes in a short time, and it is not yet certain that this direction will finally be followed by the current owner, David Durand. Just certainty on the other hand: while the profile should hardly evolve to limit costs, there will be developments on the taillight side.

A dashboard too modern?

The most spectacular novelties, however, is in the passenger compartment where you will have to look for them. If you are an avid reader of largus.fr, you may already know them! In fact, the redesigned Spring should pick up, in some detail, the dash of one of its many Chinese cousins, the Dongfeng EX1 Nano Box. This also poses some problems for the Romanian brand. With its large central touch screen, digital instrumentation and floating center console, the smallest Dacia runs the risk of looking much more modern than the rest of the range, moving away from the manufacturer’s pitches advocating a return to basics. But impossible to do otherwise. As part of a joint venture that also involves Nissan, it is China’s Dongfeng that remains the prime contractor for this project. The Spring 2024, which will always be made in the Middle Kingdom, must therefore deal with the decisions of this essential partner.

More powerful engine and greater autonomy

During 2023, Dacia’s city car will gain a 60 hp electric motor that will support the current 44 hp block.

This cure for modernity would not be complete without some technical advances. For the latter, however, there will be no need to wait until the restyling. From 2023, the range will host a new 60 hp electric motor to support the current 44 CV block, which will remain in the catalogue. For a supplement that we still imagine reasonable, it will therefore be possible to benefit from a performance in clear progress, to leave the city more serenely. However, we hope that Dacia will take the opportunity to equip its Spring with better quality tires than the current ones. As for the battery, it will receive a small improvement to gain around 2 kWh, with a useful capacity now close to 30 kWh. Dacia’s objectives are to show a range of 200 km and that the 44 hp version stays below €20,000.
