The Stade Toulousain kicked off its 2022-2023 Top 14 season on the pitch of Bordeaux-Bègles. After a game full of suspense, the “Rouge et Noir” club finally won against Bordeaux (25-26).
the game movie
3′: Thomas Ramos starts the match by converting a long penalty (about 40 meters) obtained by his captain Julien Marchand (0-3).
9′: The Toulousans think they have scored the first try of the match when Antoine Dupont finds Dimitri Delibes on his left wing, who flattens but sees his try canceled by a Dupont striker.
23′: The first try of the match was the work of the locals. After some good work by Maxime Lamothe, the player from Bordeaux found the flaw on the right wing, where former Toulouse player Rémi Lamerat beat Romain Ntamack (8-6). Zack Holmes, another former Stade, did not convert.
28′: UBB doubles the lead through winger Madosh Tambwe. The Congolese took advantage of a good ball behind Matthis Lebel to erase Thomas Ramos and rush towards the goal (13-6).
34′: Madosh Tambwe, him again. The Bordeaux debutant spoke of his power and speed to fit into the gap left by the Stade defense and score his second try of the afternoon (20-9).
40′: The Stadium believes, once again, in approaching a try, but Matthis Lebel, author of a breakthrough, fails to flatten in in-goal. The return to the locker room of Toulouse led by 22-9.

60′: Romain Ntamack put his team back on track by scoring a new try that he created on his own after a failed challenge from Bielle-Biarrey. Jaminet returns the advantage to the Stade (22-23).
62′: Bordeaux are back in front on the scoreboard, after a penalty from Matthieu Jalibert (25-23).
65′: Madosh Tambwe escapes for a third solo try, but the video referee calls it off after a lead on a Bordeaux tackle.
67′: Melvyn Jaminet chooses the points from the right side of the field and converts a difficult penalty (25-26).
77′: Red card for Alban Placines who leaves his teammates outnumbered after a header against Antoine Miquel.
The reaction stage
Like the penalty obtained at the start of the match, the team from Toulouse immediately imposed their physical impact on the Bordeaux team, before letting their rivals pick up the thread of the match and scoring several tries. The Stadites paid cash for the offenses at the end of the first act.
Several mistakes were also made at the start of the second half, which for a time prevented the visitors from developing their game and coming back to score. Stade then moved up a gear to win the match. You can still thank Matthieu Jalibert and Maxime Lucu who missed penalties late in the match.
Rookies have game time
Three of Toulouse’s signings lined up as starters during this match: Joshua Brennan, son of Trevor Brennan, in the second row; former Lyonnais Pierre-Louis Barassi as center and Alexandre Roumat as number 8 opposite his former teammates. Melvyn Jaminet and Arthur Retière then replaced Dimitri Delibes and Thomas Ramos to play the final 30 minutes of the match.
Stade Toulousain started their season in the best possible way on the Bordeaux pitch with this strong victory. Almost a year after losing their throne as leaders on the pitch at Chaban-Delmas on the occasion of matchday 12 of the Top 14 (17-7), the Toulouses take their revenge on Christophe Urios’s men. The Stadites had already achieved this last season by winning at La Rochelle in their first match. The reception of Toulon, leader and solid winner of the promoted Bayonne (40-25) next Sunday (9:05 p.m.) will be a new real test for the Stadium.
