Ligue 1: Losc recovers, Lens and Rennes hooked, Ajaccio and Strasbourg still powerless... What to remember from Sunday's games

Double portion of Ligue 1 this week. After the fifth day, played on Wednesday, the championship players returned to the table on Sunday, September 4 to play the break and the end of the sixth day. The day before they won Marseille, Lyon and Paris. They were followed by Lille, Lorient and Clermont on Sunday. In the other multiplex meetings at 15:00, Reims and Lens, as well as Brest and Strasbourg, parted ways back to back. At 5pm Troyes controlled Rennes and in the end Monaco won the Riviera derby against Nice.

David and Cabella allow Losc to find the path to success

Inconstant since the start of the season and defeated by Nice on Wednesday, the Mastiffs have revived in Montpellier (1-3). The northerners seize the opportunity to overtake their opponent of the day in the standings, thanks in particular to a strong performance by former Montpellier resident Remy Cabella, decisive double passer for Jonathan David and then Angel Gomes. Earlier, Héraultais had opened the scoring against the tide thanks to Elye Wahi, but Valère Germain’s dismissal just before half-time benefited Lille, for whom Jonathan David sealed the win with a brace.

Ajaccio and Strasbourg are still not taking off

With just one point on the clock, Ajaccio is last in Ligue 1. Against Lorient on Sunday, the Corsicans kept the ball (58% ball possession), but they weren’t dangerous enough (0-1). With just three shots on target from 16 attempts, Ajaccio’s attack continues to cause concern after scoring just three goals in six games. More realistic, those from Lorient leave the Island of Beauty with the three points, acquired thanks to a goal from Dango Ouattara.

Like Ajaccio, Strasbourg have yet to find their way to success this season. The Alsatians gave up a fourth tie, on the grass of Brest (1-1). But they can be satisfied with the point obtained, after playing an hour behind due to Sanjin Prcic’s dismissal. The Brestois, on the other hand, can harbor regrets when they opened the scoring for Pierre Lees-Melou from the 6th minute.

Balogun’s trigger allows Reims to hang Lens

While Stade de Reims lost their nugget, Hugo Ekitike (transferred to PSG), this summer the Champagne club quickly found a successor in English youngster Folarin Balogun. On loan from Arsenal, the 21-year-old center forward scored his fifth goal in six Ligue 1 games this Sunday, against Lens (1-1).

The Rémois notably took advantage of their numerical superiority after the expulsion of Deiver Machado (67th) to open the scoring. But they may regret conceding Loïs Openda’s equalizer late in the match (83rd), which deprives them of a second win in a row. The Lensois remain undefeated with two draws and four wins.

Rennes disappoints again

Four days before entering the Europa League against Larnaca, Stade Rennais did not add more than one point in their visit to Troyes (1-1). Even outnumbered for more than an hour after Yoann Salmier’s red card, the Bretons offered disappointing offensive production and appeared to be short of creativity despite the permanence of their latest addition, Amine Gouiri. Defensively heroic, especially in the last minutes of the game, the Trojans continue their good run this week, after two wins.

Three defeats in a week, the account is salty for Toulouse

Excited at the start of the season, Toulouse seems to be ticking the clock. After a defeat in Nantes last weekend and another against PSG on Wednesday, the violets suffered another setback, this time against Clermont (2-0). Against a well-organized Auvergne defence, TéFéCé had fewer chances than in their previous matches. The Clermontois offered themselves a place in the top 10 thanks to goals from Maxime Gonalons and Muhammed Cham.

Auxerre 0-2 Marseille
Lyon 5-0 Angers
Nantes 0-3 Paris
Montpellier 1-3 Lilac
Lens Reims 1-1
Brest 1-1 Strasbourg
Ajaccio 0-1 Lorient
Clermont 1-0 Toulouse
Troyes 1-1 Rennes
Nice 0-1 Monaco
