At Audi, the electrified models bear the e-Tron name. This affects both plug-in hybrid vehicles and 100% electric vehicles. The brand with the rings began its offensive in 2018 with its e-Tron, a large SUV of almost 5 meters, then it declined into a coupé version, then the e-Tron GT appeared, a high-end sedan designed on the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. Technologically advanced vehicles, but very expensive due to their premium positioning. Audi took 2021 to start its descent with products that are still electric, but less expensive like this Q4. Although it is more accessible than its counterparts, the truth is that its prices start at €50,000 and it is even necessary to have €68,300 for our test model. We have known better in terms of democratization.

As its name suggests, the Q4 is an SUV. With a length of 4.59 m, this Q4 sits between the Q3 and the Q5. Like most of the brand’s other SUVs, this one is also available in a coupe version called the Q4 Sportback.

Today, we are testing the “classic” version on a trial basis. It shows a traditional look, but it is however the most original front end with a large full grille surrounded by customizable Matrix LED headlights. The rear part is for its part crossed by a luminous strip that joins the two lights.

In the passenger compartment we discover a very horizontal plank with 100% digital instrumentation and aerators that run the entire width. The multimedia screen measures 11.6 inches and this Q4 benefits from some specific features, such as the flat double steering wheel equipped with illuminated touch buttons when the ignition is on, but also the floating console that frees up a lot of storage space.

Good point also for the practical aspects. Passengers will enjoy more than adequate legroom and headroom. The icing on the cake, the floor is flat, which makes it easy to use the center rear seat. The same observation for the trunk with a capacity that varies between 520 and 1,490 liters, an advantageous volume for the category.

The Q4 is marketed with three 100% electric motors. Its powers range from 204 CV of the 40 version to 299 CV of our test model, passing through the 245 of the 45 version, reserved exclusively for professionals. The 50 is therefore the most powerful, but above all it is the only one that offers all-wheel drive. This difference in power is accompanied by a much higher torque with a value of 460 Nm, enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 s and reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Numbers that allow you to travel with complete peace of mind. Whichever road network you take, a certain tone will be there. It is not enough to destabilize this Q4, which shows a beautiful homogeneity. The four-wheel drive reinforces it in this area and allows it to have more versatility, especially for those who would like to venture into slippery terrain such as the mountains, for example.

Passenger comfort is at a very good level with excellent filtration of rolling noise, but also of air, regardless of tire mounting, including 21-inch wheels, although 20-inch wheels naturally offer a better result. overwhelming. Without being extremely dynamic due in particular to steering that lacks a bit of consistency, while remaining precise, the Q4 offers great stability with perfectly controlled body movements. Finally, note that for once in an electric model, the feeling of the brake pedal is quite natural, close to that of a thermal.

However, compared to some of these rivals, the Q4 stands out for its fairly comprehensive recovery system. Thus, it is equipped, like the other models of the Volkswagen group, with a “Brake” mode that increases regeneration under braking, but above all it has paddles behind the steering wheel to choose the recovery power in normal mode (D). Three levels are available to you. As a result, thanks to all this, we have registered an interesting balance of consumption. Thus, in our test, we noticed an average of 18.8 kWh/100 km, enough to guarantee a range of more than 400 km.

As for charging, the Q4 has inherited a recent development that allows it to receive charging powers of up to 135 kW in direct current. Charge time from 5 to 80% is reduced to 36 minutes. No change in AC with 11 kW maximum with a charge time of 7:30.
