Marketed since 2018, the DS 7 Crossback has quickly established itself as a must-have vehicle for the French brand. It thus became its best-selling model in a few months and even came to represent more than half of the French manufacturer’s sales. Above all, it allowed DS to assert its position in the premium market, as it was the best-selling premium SUV in France between 2018 and 2021. Its success is therefore impossible to deny.

However, after nearly five years of racing, it’s time for this DS 7 to get a facelift, as is tradition in the automotive world. And yes, you heard right, now we must say DS 7 and no longer DS 7 Crossback. Name change, therefore, as the term “Crossback” is no longer popular with customers. And it is very likely that in a few months the same thing will happen with its little brother, the DS 3 Crossback, which would therefore become DS 3.

A completely renewed personality

With this semantic issue resolved, the aesthetic changes made to this DS 7 are important and noticeable at first glance. They focus mainly on the front and rear.

Thus, from the front, we immediately notice the new light signature and, in particular, the new daytime running lights. No more verticals before the restyling, they are replaced by new ones inspired by those present in the DS X E-Tense and Aero Sport Lounge concepts. Called “DS Light Veil”, they consist of four lines made up of 33 LEDs. From a technical point of view, it is a laser-engraved polycarbonate surface painted only on the inside, to give it an appearance of alternating light and body-color painted areas. This new entity rubs shoulders with new finer projectors, but they change technology. Gone are the rotating crystals that were one of the hallmarks of DS. From now on, the French brand uses Pixel LED projectors made up of 84 LEDs that allow lighting to be optimized according to traffic and weather conditions. The other changes relate to the grille, which has been widened, while the DS Wings, these chrome elements, are now reduced in size. The lower part of the shield has also been redesigned and the soft nose, the part between the hood and the grille, has also been slightly revised.

The stern also gets its share of updates with the adoption of a new tailgate with sharper body lines. The headlights are thinner and the name DS7 Crossback no longer appears among them, but rather DS Automobiles.

In the end, we often tended to criticize the flashy, flashy side of certain DS models. The criticism seems to have been contained. Results: the DS7 does not lose personality, on the contrary, it gains and thereby reinforces its statutory aspect

This is the novelty of this restyling: the introduction of a 360 hp rechargeable hybrid version, which comes to preside over the range. Beyond the technical details, it is characterized by some particular styling elements, such as many black body parts, 21-inch wheels, a lower ride height and wider tracks. Enough to give this DS 7 even more character.

If the exterior evolves enormously, it is not the case of the interior that remains unchanged. To tell the truth, it’s not bad at all since it represented one of the strengths of this DS 7. We thus find the very gratifying atmosphere of the French SUV with quality materials (leather, alcantara, aluminium), some details of the brand such as the pearl stitching, the guilloché or the retractable BRM watch.

Obviously we find certain classic touches on the DS such as the guilloché or the retractable BRM clock.

These noble materials can completely dress the interior, be it the dashboard, the door panels and even the ceiling. DS is also taking advantage of this redesign to introduce new leather fabrics. The driver will have in front of him a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation whose graphics have been modernized and can be relayed by a large head-up display. The 12.3-inch multimedia screen also receives the new Stellantis operating system, which represents a significant advance in terms of ergonomics and fluidity. Only regret, the presence still in the center console of the electric windows.

Whether in the rear seats or in the trunk, the DS 7 is very welcoming.

As the dimensions remain unchanged, with a specific length of 4.60 m, status quo in terms of practicalities, which remain very interesting with generous rear space and a boot that can hold a volume of 550 liters if the engine is plug-in hybrid. or thermal.
