Which model of Huawei FreeBuds true wireless earphones to choose?

For its best headphones, Huawei has gone all out! Developed in partnership with Devialet, the FreeBuds Pro 2 offer solid sound performance and are almost on a par with Sony’s WF-1000XM4, current champions in the field. Feelings of comfort are excellent and the headphones are a delight to wear on a daily basis. However, we regret the slight lack of homogeneity in the treble and the autonomy somewhat adjusted.

The FreeBuds Pro 2, therefore, are aimed at those who are looking for the best of Huawei, regardless of price. However, people who can’t stand to have the entrance to the ear canal sealed should beware, because if the FreeBuds Pro 2 don’t fit inside the ear canal, they completely obscure the entrance. We advise these people to undergo an adaptation session before getting hold of them.

The FreeBuds Pro are starting to look a bit dated, but they are still offered in the Huawei catalogue. Launched in late 2020 to compete with Apple’s AirPods Pro, the name’s first FreeBuds Pro are solid earphones that offer a user experience with tiny onions, near-perfect comfort sensations, and effective noise reduction. Sound reproduction is no slouch either, with punchy bass and balanced sound. They are an interesting alternative to the FreeBuds Pro 2, because they are sold at half price for performance that is certainly a little lower, but they are still very solid anyway.

The FreeBuds 4 stand out from other headphones sold by Huawei for their open format, called “button” or “open fit”. In fact, they are not equipped with any silicone or foam tips and therefore do not obstruct the ear canal. Therefore, the FreeBuds 4 are intended for people who are totally allergic to ear canal obstruction. However, this “button” format comes with some trade-offs. For example, it is impossible to obtain effective active noise reduction. The FreeBuds 4 also have a hard time staying in the socket of some ears due to their format.

Currently one of the best value for money in our comparison of true wireless earphones, the FreeBuds 4i have almost everything to please: sensations of comfort are remarkable, autonomy is very generous and they sound particularly good. However, we were dissatisfied with the performance of the active noise reduction, which was acceptable, and also with the pickup quality of the microphones. However, they are excellent headphones that are totally recommended for a budget of less than €80.
